A House That Serves: Our Covenant to Follow the Lord

Updated: Apr 11

By Sally Alonzo

“But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord"  - Joshua 24:15

I was born and raised in a Christian home; my grandfather was a Pastor, so we were essentially regular churchgoers. It was during a simple lesson at Vacation Bible School that faith became personal for me. Our teacher explained that being a Christian is not inherited but chosen: a living, personal relationship with Jesus. In that moment I understood I needed to accept Christ as my own Lord and Savior, not merely follow my family’s faith.

After college I worked abroad as a hotel front desk associate, where God answered my prayer for a life partner. I met my husband there; he was not yet a Christian. Believing that faith should be shared in marriage, I invited him to church. Through patient witness, faithful invitation, and the power of the gospel, he met Jesus and accepted Him as Lord and Savior. God blessed our union with a son, and together we have walked in faith ever since.

Our journey of sharing faith and growing together spiritually is very rewarding experience as a family, we still face challenges, but we don’t have to go through them alone, God give us strength and peace that doesn’t depend on our own circumstances. We choose to serve the Lord as a family. This is not a one‑time decision but a daily posture. To God be the glory!
