From Reckless to Redeemed

I was born and raised in the Catholic faith and grew up with the values my parents taught. Still, I wandered far from the life my parents and God intended. For years I lived a reckless, “happy‑go‑lucky” life—drinking, smoking, gambling, and chasing the approval that came with popularity and good looks. I became arrogant, lied to my parents, stole money, and skipped school.
A turning point came after my mother learned about work opportunities in Saipan. I moved there and, for three years, continued the same habits. Everything changed when I met Sally through mutual friends. She invited me to her church, and I began attending Bible studies, prayer meetings, and fellowships. Hearing God’s Word regularly created a hunger in me to know Him more. Gradually my life changed: I began reading the Bible, leading prayers, and serving in Men’s ministry. Matthew 6:33 became my guide: “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” The Lord continued to change my life when I accepted Him as my personal Lord and savior.
Sally and I were married in December 1998, and God blessed us with a son, Stephen Seth. We raised him in the church, teaching him to pray and study Scripture. Today Stephen serves as a Sunday school teacher and leads in the music ministry in Saipan. Though he and his wife Bella live far away, we trust God’s protection and guidance for them.
Currently, I am assisting Pastor Jayson Santos as a Local Ministerial Candidate (LMC) though God’s Family Christian Fellowship (GFCF) Sacramento and regularly attend at Life Connection Group in Elk Grove started by Pastor Rene Opena. Now I live by faith, not by worry about today or tomorrow, trusting the promises God has placed in my heart. I look forward to the day I will be with Him in His Kingdom. I am Sonny Alonzo and this is my testimony, to God be the glory!
